Rays 5, Mariners 4: Luke Scott snapped a tie with a leadoff home run in the sixth inning and Tampa Bay went on to extend its home winning streak to eight games.
Sean Rodriguez also homered and Jose Molina had two hits and two RBIs for the Rays, who improved to a major league-best 11-1 at home.
After Kyle Seager knotted the game in the top of the sixth with his second blast of the night, Scott started the bottom half by drilling a 3-2 pitch from Blake Beavan (1-3) to deep center field. Michael Saunders made a leaping attempt but inadvertently knocked the ball over the wall with his glove, giving Scott his sixth homer of the season and Tampa Bay a 5-4 lead.
Seager launched a three-run shot off James Shields in the first inning to give the Mariners a 3-0 bulge. Rodriguez cut the deficit to one with a two-run homer in the third and Molina delivered a two-run double an inning later for a 4-3 advantage.
Shields (5-0) registered his fifth consecutive win despite allowing four runs and five hits in six innings. The veteran walked four but struck out a season-high 11.
Joel Peralta got Tampa Bay out of a jam in the eighth before working a perfect ninth for his first save.
Beavan yielded five runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old walked two after issuing only two free passes over his first 25 frames this season.
Seager finished with three hits for Seattle, which has lost five straight after winning the first four of its 10-game road trip.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Shields has surrendered eight runs in 12 innings over his last two starts after giving up only three in 24 1/3 frames over his previous three outings. ... The two-homer performance was the first of Seager's career. Three of his six major-league blasts have been hit at Tropicana Field, where he belted his first shot on August 19, 2011. ... All of the Mariners' last 13 runs have come via the homer.
