Eric Thames hit a two-run homer against his former team in his first game with Seattle and John Jaso snapped a tie with a two-out single in the sixth inning as the host Mariners won their seventh straight contest for the first time since 2007.

Blake Beavan (7-6) won his fourth consecutive start as the Mariners prevailed for the 14th time in their last 20 games by sweeping Toronto. Beavan allowed three runs and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings.

Kelly Johnson and Colby Rasmus hit solo homers for the Blue Jays, who have lost four straight.

Carlos Villanueva (6-1) had his four-game winning streak snapped. Villanueva, who was 4-0 with a 2.54 ERA in five starts since joining the rotation on June 29, allowed four runs, seven hits and struck out six in six innings.

Lucas Luetge struck out Rasmus to end the eighth inning and Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a perfect ninth to record his 15th save in 17 chances.

Thames, who was traded Monday, tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning with his two-out shot to center field after Jeff Mathis’ sacrifice fly in the top half put Toronto ahead 3-1.

The Mariners added an insurance run on Dustin Ackley’s RBI single in the seventh inning.
