Mariners 7, Tigers 4: Alex Liddi recorded three hits, including a home run, and Michael Saunders drove in three as visiting Seattle snapped a four-game slide.

Kyle Seager added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored for the Mariners, who had totaled eight runs over the previous four contests.

Seattle solved its hitting woes early Tuesday, getting to Max Scherzer for a run in the first and three more in the third. Jesus Montero’s RBI single plated the opening run while Seager’s single and Saunders’ two-run double came in the third-inning rally.

Scherzer (1-2) ended up lasting five innings and was charged with five runs on 10 hits. The right-hander struck out six but saw his ERA rise to 8.24.

Jason Vargas (3-1) allowed home runs to Alex Avila and Miguel Cabrera, leaving after the sixth inning with the Mariners clinging to a 5-4 edge.

But Liddi provided some insurance in the seventh, taking a 2-1 fastball from right-hander Collin Balester over the bullpen in left-center for his first homer of the season.

Two relievers bridged the gap to Brandon League, who worked a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.

: After hitting .405 through the first 10 games, Tigers leadoff hitter Austin Jackson is 2-for-29 (.069) over the last seven. … Cabrera and Prince Fielder went a combined 4-for-7 on Tuesday. The rest of the Detroit lineup went 4-for-28. Mariners leadoff man Chone Figgins is 1-for-18 over the last five games.
