Southern California vs Xavier
When: 2:30 PM ET, Friday, November 27, 2015
Where: HP Field House, Kissimmee, Florida

USC suffered through growing pains while winning 12 of 32 games in coach Andy Enfield’s first year at the helm last season and the Trojans are showing that they learned plenty. USC takes on unbeaten Xavier in the semifinals of the AdvoCare Invitational Friday at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., only 24 hours after knocking off 20th-ranked Wichita State.

The Trojans have won their first five games for the first time since 2000-01 when they started 8-0. USC held off Wichita State 72-69 in the first round and will take on a Xavier squad that can match them in depth. The Musketeers, who have six players averaging at least nine points, struggled a bit in the first half Thursday before pulling away for a 64-45 victory over Alabama in the first round. Sophomore Trevon Bluiett leads the way with 14.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest for balanced Xavier, which already owns victories over Missouri and Michigan.

TV: 2:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU.

ABOUT USC (5-0): Bennie Boatwright announced his presence with a season-best 22 points in the first round and the 6-10 freshman has drained 10-of-24 from 3-point range in the past three games. Guard Jordan McLaughlin leads the team in scoring (19.2) after registering 15 against Wichita State while Elijah Stewart (12.8) struggled to 1-of-7 shooting. The Trojans have made 50-of-119 from 3-point range in the early going with three players making at least 10 – Boatwright, McLaughlin and Katin Reinhardt.

ABOUT XAVIER (5-0): The Musketeers have had different players step up this season and it was J.P. Macura’s turn Thursday as he recorded 14 points while freshman Edmond Sumner went 0-for-6, scoring one point. Macura is averaging 11.4 points in the first five games and Sumner (10.6) along with 6-11 Jalen Reynolds (10.4) have had their moments, but the Musketeers are shooting only 40.6 percent from the field. “Hopefully as we settle in, we’ll get better on offense,” Xavier coach Chris Mack told reporters Thursday.

1. Xavier is outrebounding teams by an average of 14.8 per game; F James Farr leads the way with 9.4 per contest.

2. USC’s 6-11 F Chimezie Metu has blocked 16 shots in the first five games.

3. The Musketeers are in the middle of a stretch where they play five games in 10 days.
