Daniel Sedin's fifth career hat trick propelled the Vancouver Canucks to a 6-0 triumph over the visiting Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.
With two goals in the books and the game already out of reach, Sedin one-timed a slick Alexandre Burrows pass from the goal mouth 7:08 into the final period to prompt a smattering of hat tosses at Rogers Arena.
Jannik Hansen added a pair of goals while Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider made 33 saves to share the shutout. Luongo left early in the second period after taking a puck to the neck but returned to the bench for the start of the third.
Vancouver jumped out to an early lead on some terrific work by the Sedins in the offensive zone. Henrik Sedin sent a between-the-legs pass to Burrows, who fed Daniel for a wraparound attempt that deflected off Colorado netminder Semyon Varlamov and into the net 3:19 into the opening period.
Hansen doubled the advantage at 6:53 of the second. The veteran winger deked around a pair of Avalanche skaters before feeding Kevin Bieksa on a give-and-go, taking the return pass and beating a sprawling Varlamov.
Following Sedin's second of the night 5:15 into the third period, Hansen padded the lead only 34 seconds later, converting an Alexander Edler feed from the left faceoff circle for his fourth goal in the last three games. Edler made it 6-0 near the midway point of the period.
The Canucks lost forward David Booth after he was kneed by Colorado's Kevin Porter midway through the opening period. Booth didn't return and Porter was given a major penalty.
