Mike Richards scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout as the Los Angeles Kings posted a 3-2 victory over the host Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.

Dustin Penner and Justin Williams tallied in regulation and Jonathan Quick made 31 saves for Los Angeles, which improved to 4-0-3 in its last seven road games and 8-1-5 overall under coach Darryl Sutter.

Williams gave the Kings the edge in the first round of the shootout, but Alex Burrows beat Quick to the stick side on Vancouver's final chance. Richards prevented further rounds when he fired the puck just inside the right post, giving Los Angeles just its third win in 10 trips to Vancouver.

Penner ended a 17-game goalless drought and gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead just over nine minutes into the game when he deflected defenseman Drew Doughty's one-timer from the left point past Roberto Luongo. It was the third tally in 35 games this season for Penner, who has scored only five times in 54 contests since being acquired from Edmonton last February.

Vancouver pulled even on Daniel Sedin's power-play goal early in the second, but the Kings moved back ahead when Williams buried a rebound during a man advantage with less than five minutes remaining in the session. Williams and Anze Kopitar, who notched an assist, both extended their points streaks to five games on the play.

David Booth, who was playing in his second game after missing 18 with a knee injury, forged a 2-2 tie five minutes into the third, converting a pass by Jannik Hansen from the left corner.

Luongo stopped 39 shots for the Canucks, who fell to 0-1-1 on their six-game homestand.
