Canucks 2, Blackhawks 1 (SO): Rookie Jordan Schroeder scored the only goal of the shootout as host Vancouver got another strong performance from Roberto Luongo.
Defenseman Alexander Edler scored in regulation for the Canucks, while Luongo made 27 saves over 65 minutes and was a perfect 4-for-4 in the shootout after earning his 61st career shutout against Colorado on Wednesday.
Patrick Kane tallied for Chicago, which fell to 0-0-2 on its six-game road trip. Corey Crawford turned aside 21 shots but couldn’t stop Schroeder’s shootout attempt from squeezing through his pads.
Edler opened the scoring with his third goal of the season late in the first period as his wrist shot fooled Crawford. Kane tied the game midway through the third, one-timing a cross-crease pass from Andrew Shaw past a sprawling Luongo.
The Canucks were forced to kill a penalty in the final 1:11 of overtime after defenseman Jason Garrison was called for high-sticking Kane. Chicago outshot Vancouver 4-1 in the extra session.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin assisted on Edler’s goal, snapping a three-game scoring drought. … Edler leads the Canucks with seven points. … Chicago rookie LW Brandon Saad led all skaters with four shots on goal.
